STANDARD REMOTE CONTROL CARS & TRUCKS
From micro and mini to massive 1/5 and 1/6 scale, RC cars, buggies, and trucks are available in a huge range of sizes. Most vehicles in the radio control hobby as well as in the Losi® brand lineup fall somewhere in the middle at standard size, meaning 1/10 or 1/8 scale with a ten to sixteen inch wheelbase.
There are several reasons why the standard size is especially popular for remote control cars. One of the most important ones is that these larger RC cars, buggies, and trucks are simply easier to control over a wider variety of normal terrain than smaller micro and mini ones, regardless of the driver’s experience level. Put a mini RC car on a natural desert road surface, for example, and it is probably going to have some difficulty maneuvering. If your model is less responsive to your commands and harder to handle in those conditions, it won’t be as much fun to run as a standard size or larger RC vehicle will be.
You’ll also find a larger assortment of favorite RC car categories represented in the standard size than others. Losi offers almost every type of full-size vehicle in 1/10 or 1/8 scale. Electric power choices include the full-size favorite Grave Digger LMT monster truck; the Lasernut U4 rock racer; the TENACITY® TT Pro short course RC truck; the ’68 Ford F100 22S and ’68 Camaro 22S No Prep drag racers; and the TENACITY DB Pro desert buggy, among many others. If you prefer nitro power, that’s also represented in the Losi lineup of standard size RC vehicles. Nitro powered choices include the 1/8 scale 8IGHT™ nitro buggy and 8IGHT-T nitro truggy. These all offer ready-to-run (RTR) convenience, coming fully assembled with finished bodies and including most of the required accessories. However, experienced drivers who prefer to customize can opt for one of our rollers, such as the 22S No Prep drag car rolling chassis and select their own body and electronics.
If scale accuracy in the model you drive is a high priority, the larger dimensions of standard size RC vehicles offers more opportunities to include realistic details. The body shells might have side mirrors, door handles, and the licensed graphics of famous names in full-scale automobiles and motorsports. The cab interiors may also feature dashboards, steering wheels, seats, and driver and passenger figures.
Depending on your choice, the cost of a standard size Losi RC car or truck will range from about $200 to $700. For most drivers working within a typical hobby budget, we recommend buying a standard size vehicle because it will bring you the greatest number of benefits for the price. You’ll have more options to choose from in the style of vehicle. You’ll be able to run it successfully on a wider range of surfaces. You’ll have no difficulty getting aftermarket service and support. And you’ll find a large selection of upgrade parts available when you’re ready to upgrade your standard radio control vehicle for bigger, better performance.
