The Losi® brand’s dominance of the 1/5 scale radio control vehicle market was established with the 5IVE gas powered RC platform. You’ll find many of the same features and characteristics in the Losi DBXL platform, such as agile handling, out of the box speed, and durability, at a lower price. The DBXL is a remote control off-road powerhouse designed to withstand the rigors of intense driving with heavy-duty construction that pulverizes the terrain at ballistic speeds. It’s at home in any environment from dirt to pavement, wet or dry, especially with its 4WD drivetrain with larger 5mm drive pins making sure all the power is put to the ground. It’s the go-to vehicle for large scale bashers and enthusiasts alike.
Losi developed the electric version of the platform, the DBXL-E, to be cleaner and easier to use, but with performance and speed that outruns the competition. Key features include a heavy-duty drivetrain with larger outdrives and drive shaft to support the larger 5mm drive pin for increased strength and durability. Improved gearboxes also increase drivetrain strength and stability. The front and rear bulkheads are updated to match the gearboxes, with two additional mounting locations added to the side of the bulkheads to keep the gearboxes from rocking up and down under acceleration and braking. This produces a more stable drivetrain and increases overall durability.
The electric DBXL platform also features an electric-specific rear chassis brace that goes all the way up to the center diff mount to increase the rigidity of the chassis. The shock bodies include a lower aluminum cap that allows for easier maintenance of the shock seals for improved performance. Aluminum front and rear shock towers with revised camber mounting locations improve stability and handling. An aluminum diff cup in the center differential adds the strength and durability needed to handle the power produced by today’s brushless motors.
The gas version of the DBXL platform makes its presence known with a roaring Zenoah® 32cc engine and a large-capacity tank for extended run times. Many features are carried over from the electric version, with additions to support the power of the gas engine. A 4mm chassis stiffening plate under the engine allows for the use of engine slugs to set the gear mesh and reduce the chances of engine movement during large impacts. The gearboxes are secured to the bulkheads with two screws to keep them from rocking up and down when power is applied. The gearboxes also allow for a more secure closure to better keep the pinion gear in place for increased strength and durability. The steering rack and servo saver incorporate an updated helical design that adds strength while providing smoother servo saver action for increased servo durability. The center drive cups have a ring captured design like the 5IVE-T to reduce the chances of drivetrain failures.
Both versions of the Losi DBXL top off the powerful platform with scale bodies and motorsports themed livery for a true off-road look. The Losi DBXL is large-scale radio control driving excitement at its most satisfying!
