Team Losi Nitro Off Road Winter Champs Hosted by the
Hurricane R/C Club in Tampa, FL
The first year for the Team Losi Nitro Champs hosted racers from many parts of
the world to come and race. Drivers from Sweden, England, Norway, and Australia
enjoyed some good ole American racing in the heart of sunny Florida.
To start of the racing weekend was Friday's qualifying which saw Team Losi
driver Adam Drake take top qualifying honors in both 1/10th Truck with his Team
Losi XXX–NT AD2 and 1/8 Truggy with the soon to be released Team Losi
8ight T Race Roller. Right behind Adam was fellow teammate Mike Truhe with his
Team Losi Nitrotane fuel powered 8ight T Race Roller and XXX–NT AD2.
Saturday was qualifying for the premier offroad class, 1/8th Buggy. There were
two classes this year in 1/8th Buggy, one being the 1/8th Sportsman Class and
the second being 1/8th Factory Class. In the Factory Class Adam Drake took
overall Top Qualifying honors. Adam ended up with the TQ by getting 2 of the 4
rounds with fellow Team Losi driver Mike Truhe and Travis Amezcua taking the
other two rounds with their Nitrotane Fuel powered Team Losi 8ights to round
out 2nd and 3rd on the grid for Sundays main event.
On Sunday, it was the Team Losi show in most of the classes. In the 1/8th
Sportsman division it was privateer Marcus Black taking the overall win with
Mike Weatherholt finishing 2nd with his Team Losi 8ight to give Team Losi a
1–2 sweep in the Sportsman 1/8th class. Since Marcus won the 1/8th
Sportsman class he was awarded a brand new factory sealed Team Losi 8ight.
The 1/8th Truggy class was yet another very competitive field with factory
support from many teams. In the main, Team Losi's Adam Drake took the win over
Travis Amezcua to give Team Losi's soon to be released 8ight T Race Roller a
1–2 sweep in the Truggy class.
The 1/10th Truck class saw the familiar face of Team Losi's Adam Drake run away
from the field taking advantage of his top qualifying position and to win the
30 minute A–main by almost a lap. In 2nd it was Team Losi's Mike Truhe
securing 2nd with his Team Losi XXX–NT AD2 powered with Nitrotane fuel.
Team Losi was the team to beat in the 1/8th Factory Class as the Team Losi
8ights managed to qualify 1–2–3 on the grid. In the main a fierce
battle between Team Losi's Adam Drake and Mike Truhe lasted the entire 45
minute main. Mike Truhe edged out Drake by less than a second to win the
overall and bring home top honors to Team Losi and Nitrotane Fuel. Rounding out
the top three was fellow Team Losi Teammate Travis Amezcua with his Team Losi
8ight powered by Nitrotane fuel. This gave Team Losi a 1–2–3 sweep
in the most coveted class at the event.
Team Losi would like to thank everyone who came to experience the 1st Annual
Team Losi Nitro Champs. We would also like to thank the Hurricane RC Club on
putting on an excellent event once again. One more thank you goes out to the
foreign competitors who made the trip this year giving the race some
international flare. This year's race only proves that the Team Losi Nitro
Champs will be the Premier International Offroad Gas Event to attend in years
to come.
